Three questions stand between you and a shortlist. The picker asks three questions, and every answer you tap rebuilds the selection from the full set of 29 tours, dropping the rides that no longer fit and keeping the ones that do. Nothing is locked in until you choose a tour.

Bike type carries most of the pace question. Twenty-five of the 29 tours are e-bike only or offer an e-bike option, so pedal assist is available almost everywhere if you want help with Madrid's climbs or its summer heat. Regular-bike tours ask more from your legs but move at the group's rhythm rather than the motor's, and the $29 "Vintage Bike, Optional Tapas" ride stays on a vintage bike unless you select the e-bike.

6tour types
7,183reviews behind the ratings

Group setup shapes the ride differently. Seven tours run as private groups, from $40.18 to $215.83 per person, giving your party the guide and the route to yourselves. Shared rides trade that exclusivity for lower prices and set departure times. Answer honestly about distance and heat rather than optimistically: the picker works from what each tour states, and the shortlist it returns reflects caps, durations and bike types exactly as the booking pages publish them. Start with fitness, then pace, then who is riding with you.

Once the picker returns a shortlist, three comparisons do most of the narrowing. Ride length comes first: tours run from a 1.5-hour express circuit, the "1.5-Hour Express Ride" at $30, up to the five-hour "5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive" at $102.17, so the time commitment varies by a factor of more than three.

5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive

Bike type is second. Of the 29 tours, 25 are e-bike only or offer an e-bike option, so the real question is which of your shortlist is e-bike only and which lets you choose. Where a cap applies, group size is the third filter: the "3-Hour Highlights Bike Ride" caps at 15, the "Photo Ride, Small Group" at 8, the "Small-Group E-Bike Gems" at 10, and the "Vintage Bike, Optional Tapas" ride at 50, a wide spread for the same city streets.

Price structure matters too. Seven tours run as private groups and are priced per person, with five of them, such as "All-Madrid Private E-Bike" from $43.68, adjusting that per-person figure by group size. Match the cap to your tolerance for company, the bike type to your legs, and the duration to your day before you open any booking page.

How Does A Ride On Madrid Bike Tours Unfold, From Meeting Point To Last Stop?

Cyclists on city bikes ride past stone statues on Plaza de Oriente with the Royal Palace behind.

Most tours share a basic arc: a stated meeting point in central Madrid, bikes and gear handed over, a guided loop past named stops, and a return to where you started. The details differ tour by tour, and this page compares them side by side, 29 rides in total.

The Meeting Point

Most rides meet at a fixed street address, though the 3-Hour Electric Sightseeing and Casa de Campo e-bike tours offer hotel pickup and drop-off as a booking extra. Several hubs recur: Calle de Santiago 18 beside the Royal Palace serves seven tours, Calle de Juan Álvarez Mendizábal 19 in Argüelles serves six, and Calle del Espejo 9 in Centro serves four. Retiro, Malasaña and Sol addresses round out the map. Two day trips start outside the city, in Segovia and San Lorenzo de El Escorial, while the El Pardo ride meets in Argüelles.

Bikes, Helmets And Guides

28 of the 29 tours include a bike, 19 a helmet, and 26 a guide. Where a helmet is optional, the booking page says so, and the "Small-Group Bike or E-Bike" tour makes it obligatory for children up to 16. Nine tours mention bottled water, so check your specific tour rather than assuming.

Cheapest from-price in each tour type, per person, USD

The Route And Its Stops

The named stops follow the city's landmarks: Retiro Park appears on 17 itineraries, the Palacio Real on 16, the Templo de Debod on 11, and the Plaza Mayor on 10. Parks riders head for Casa de Campo and Madrid Río; private tours often stitch both center and green corridors together.

Food And The Long Ride

Tapas are an optional add-on on some tours, not part of the ticket. The one exception is the "5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive" at $102.17 per person, which includes lunch, coffee or tea, bottled water and drinks for adults.

The duration table above compresses 29 tours into six categories, and the spread within each tells its own story.

What The Durations Show

City highlights rides run from 1.5 to 3.0 hours with a 3.0-hour median, so the classic format is a three-hour loop and the express option is the outlier. E-bike tours stretch further, 3.0 to 5.0 hours, with the five-hour ceiling set by the food ride. Parks rides cluster tight at 2.0 hours, as do both night and sunset rides, which fits a departure timed to the light rather than a full circuit. Private tours span 2.0 to 3.1 hours, close to the shared-ride pattern, and day trips run 2.5 to 3.25 hours once you are at the start point.

Group Size On The Day

Where a cap is stated, small-group tours keep the count low: the food e-bike ride caps at 5, the "Photo Ride, Small Group" at 8, and the parks rides between 8 and 25. The "Vintage Bike, Optional Tapas" tour allows 50. Private tours mention no group-size caps because your party is the group.

Photo Ride, Small Group

The Longer Formats

The 5-hour food ride caps the group at five and spends its extra time on a full lunch and multiple stops. The day trips spend it on distance: El Pardo's palace and park, Segovia's aqueduct and the monastery at El Escorial, with the Segovia and El Escorial rides starting in those towns.

Quotes are copied verbatim from reviews on each tour's own page. Nothing here is collected or edited by this site, which only chooses which lines to show.

City Highlights Rides Past The Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor And Retiro

Cyclists riding past Plaza Mayor on a guided city highlights bike tour in Madrid
9 tours, from $29 per person

All 9 City Highlights Rides on one page →

The City Highlights Rides category gathers nine tours that loop through central Madrid by bike, from $29 to $56.25 per person. Durations run from 1.5 hours on the shortest tour to 3 hours on the median and longest, with eight of the nine at 3 hours or under.

All nine tours include a bike, and free cancellation applies on all nine. A guide is stated as included on eight of the nine; on the ninth, "Photo Ride, Small Group", a guide is not mentioned on the booking page, though photographs at every stop and bottled water are both stated on it. Helmets are stated as included on five of the nine, so check the booking page for the rest.

The category suits first-time visitors who want the classic set: Retiro Park appears on many itineraries, along with Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and Catedral de la Almudena. E-bikes are standard or an option on seven of the nine, so riders who prefer pedal assist have plenty of choices, while two rides, the photo tour and the Dutch and English guided option, stick to regular bikes.

Dutch and English Guided Ride

Two of the nine lean into a vintage theme. "Vintage Bike, Optional Tapas" is the cheapest tour in the whole dataset at $29 per person, rated 4.9 over 1,151 reviews, with a group cap of 50. Its name is honest about the food: the tapas are an optional add-on, not a meal, gratuities and the Royal Palace admission fee are excluded, and bottled water is included. "Optional Tapas Highlights Ride" at $33 per person works the same way, tapas on request rather than built into the ticket.

Beyond the three cards above, six more city rides fill out the range, with the vintage-bike ride described above.

Small-Group Highlights Ride
  • "2.5-Hour Bike or E-Bike" from $31 per person, rated 4.5 over 815 reviews, meets at Carrera de San Francisco 7 in La Latina and lists luggage storage among its inclusions.
  • "1.5-Hour Express Ride" from $30 per person, rated 4.8 over 31 reviews, caps the group at 20 and covers Palacio Real, Plaza Mayor and Mercado de San Miguel in the shortest duration in the whole dataset.
  • "Photo Ride, Small Group" from $56.25 per person, rated 5.0 over 71 reviews, is the priciest city tour and the tightest, with a group max of 8. It meets at Calle de Valverde 10 in Malasaña and states photographs at every stop plus bottled water.
  • "Small-Group Highlights Ride" from $40.18 per person, rated 4.8 over 95 reviews, meets at Calle de los Jardines 12 near Sol and names seven stops including Templo de Debod and Museo del Prado.
  • "Dutch and English Guided Ride" from $30 per person carries only 9 reviews, so weigh it accordingly.
Retiro E-Bike, Semi-Private

Starting streets include Carrera de San Francisco in La Latina and Calle del Espejo in Centro, Calle de los Jardines near Sol, Calle de Valverde in Malasaña and Calle de Felipe IV 10 in Retiro. If group size drives the choice, the spread runs from 8 on the photo ride to 50 on the vintage tour.

E-Bike Tours For Madrid's Hills, Heat And Longer Routes

E-bikes parked on a street near the Royal Palace in Madrid
4 tours, from $41.33 per person

All 4 E-Bike Tours on one page →

Four tours make up the E-Bike Tours category, priced from $41.33 to $102.17 per person, with durations running from 3 hours up to 5 hours on the longest tour.

All four tours come with an e-bike as standard, a bike included and free cancellation. Guides are stated as included on three; on "5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive" the guide detail is not mentioned, so read that booking page before booking. Helmets are only stated as included on one of the four, "E-Bike Panoramic Views, Parks", which also lists gloves, a poncho, accident insurance and civil liability insurance alongside a small bottle of water.

This category suits riders who want to cover more ground with pedal assist and prefer a set e-bike rather than choosing at checkout. Three tours set explicit group caps, and they are small: 10 on "Small-Group E-Bike Gems", 14 on "E-Bike Panoramic Views, Parks" and 5 on the food tour, which is the smallest cap on any tour here.

3 to 5 hE-Bike Tours: tour length

That food tour is the category's outlier in every sense. "5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive" costs from $102.17 per person, is rated 5.0 over 44 reviews, and is the only tour among all 29 that includes a meal: lunch of scrambled Spanish eggs, paella, ham, olives, croquettes, cod slice and tapas, plus coffee or tea to start, bottled water through the ride and, for adults, Spanish beer, vermouth, sangria or summer red wine. It meets at Calle de la Palma 7 in Malasaña, near Tribunal metro.

A fourth option in this category, beyond the three cards above, is "E-Bike Panoramic Views, Parks" from $41.33 per person, rated 4.9 over 30 reviews. It is the cheapest tour in this category. Its itinerary reaches beyond the center to Casa de Campo and Matadero Madrid, alongside Retiro Park, Palacio Real and Catedral de la Almudena. It meets at Calle de Felipe IV 10 in Retiro, next to the Casón del Buen Retiro, caps the group at 14, and states helmet, gloves, poncho, insurances and a small bottle of water as included.

Bike or E-Bike Parks Ride

For contrast, the three carded tours run from 10-rider groups on sightseeing loops to a five-person table. "Small-Group E-Bike Gems" from $51.66 per person, rated 4.9 over 189 reviews, caps at 10 and meets at Calle de Juan Álvarez Mendizábal 19 in Argüelles; it lists a helmet as optional and obligatory for children up to 16 years, and excludes coffee or tea. "3-Hour Electric Sightseeing" from $50 per person, rated 4.5 over 196 reviews, has no stated cap, meets at Calle de Santiago 18 beside the Royal Palace and includes raincoats, baskets, locks and a center map.

All four tours include free cancellation. The real fork here is format: a 5-hour, small-group lunch ride versus 3-hour sightseeing loops, with the jump from a $29 seat to the $102.17 food tour paying for the meal and the small table.

Parks And Madrid Río Rides Through Retiro And Casa De Campo

Cyclists riding along the Madrid Rio riverside path
5 tours, from $33.29 per person

All 5 Parks And Madrid Río Rides on one page →

Five tours make up the Parks And Madrid Río Rides category, from $33.29 to $44.77 per person, with every tour running 3 hours 15 minutes or under and a median of 2 hours.

A bike, a guide, and free cancellation are included on all five. Helmets are stated as included on four of the five; on "Casa de Campo E-Bike" helmet inclusion is not mentioned, though its booking page does note a helmet, marked not mandatory, alongside a map, raincoats, baskets and locks. E-bikes are standard or an option on four; "Retiro History Ride" runs on regular bikes only.

The category suits riders who would rather trade dense city blocks for green space. Casa de Campo is named on two itineraries here, Madrid Río on one and Retiro Park on two. Casa de Campo park rules cap riders at 20 km/h.

Private City Center and Retiro

Review counts in this group run thin on several tours, so read them as small samples. "Parks and Riverside Bike Ride" has 29 reviews at 4.8, "Retiro E-Bike, Semi-Private" has 28 reviews at 4.1, "Bike or E-Bike Parks Ride" has 18 reviews at 4.9 and "Retiro History Ride" has just 8 reviews at 4.4. Only "Casa de Campo E-Bike" breaks three figures, at 4.6 over 107 reviews. Four tours set a group cap, ranging from 8 to 25, with "Retiro E-Bike, Semi-Private" the smallest at 8.

Two tours in this category sit below the cards. "Retiro E-Bike, Semi-Private" from $44.77 per person, rated 4.1 over 28 reviews, is the priciest parks ride and the most intimate short of going private: a group max of 8, described on the booking page as semi-private, on e-bikes through Retiro Park, Museo del Prado and Palacio de Cristal. It meets at Calle de Santiago 18 beside the Royal Palace, includes a certified helmet with a hygienic disposable cap, raincoats, liability insurance and free lockers, and lists accident insurance at €1.85 as an exclusion.

Retiro History Ride

"Retiro History Ride" from $33.29 per person, rated 4.4 over 8 reviews, is the cheapest of the five and the only tour in the category ridden on regular bikes alone. It also meets at Calle de Santiago 18, caps the group at 25 and covers Retiro Park and Puerta de Alcalá in 2 hours with guide, bike and helmet stated as included and drinks and lunch excluded.

Four of the five tours start at Calle de Santiago 18, beside the Royal Palace; the exception, "Parks and Riverside Bike Ride", meets at Calle de Juan Álvarez Mendizábal 19 in Argüelles. Free cancellation is stated on all five. Riders deciding between the two 2-hour Casa de Campo options should note the type difference: one is e-bike only with no stated cap, the other offers bike or e-bike with a cap of 25.

Night And Sunset Rides Under Madrid's Light

Cyclists riding at sunset near the Temple of Debod in Madrid
2 tours, from $40.18 per person

All 2 Night And Sunset Rides on one page →

Two tours make up the Night And Sunset Rides category, from $40.18 to $45 per person, both running exactly 2 hours. Both tours include a guide and a helmet, and both offer free cancellation.

The tour descriptions do not say whether buildings are lit, so treat the timing as the draw rather than any illumination claim. The itinerary shape is clear: "Sunset and Night Lights E-Bike" from $45 per person names Palacio Real, Templo de Debod and Catedral de la Almudena as stops, while "Sunset-Chasing Bike Ride" from $40.18 per person covers Palacio Real and Templo de Debod. Both meet at Calle de Santiago 18, beside the Royal Palace.

The two differ mainly in bike and format. The e-bike tour includes raincoats, a lock and liability insurance, but whether a bike is included is not mentioned, so confirm on the booking page. The regular-bike option includes the bike and caps the group at 15, the only cap spelled out anywhere in the category.

Sunset and Night Lights E-Bike

Review counts are small and should be read that way: "Sunset and Night Lights E-Bike" is rated 4.9 over 17 reviews, and "Sunset-Chasing Bike Ride" is rated 5.0 over 8 reviews. Neither has the four-figure review base of the big city rides, so ratings here carry less weight.

With only two tours in this category, both appear as cards above, and there are no others to compare. What the comparison comes down to is small but real.

Price separates them by $4.82. Format separates them more. "Sunset-Chasing Bike Ride" is a small-group regular-bike tour with a cap of 15, a local guide, bike, helmet and a raincoat if the weather requires it, with food and beverages excluded. "Sunset and Night Lights E-Bike" is an e-bike tour with no stated group cap, including a guide, helmet, raincoats in case of rain, a lock and liability insurance; it excludes food, beverages, hotel transfer and accident insurance at €1.85.

Both start at Calle de Santiago 18 beside the Royal Palace and both state free cancellation. Neither tour mentions a meal, bottled water or hotel pickup, and the e-bike tour does not say whether a bike is included.

Sunset-Chasing Bike Ride

For riders choosing between them, the e-bike option pairs pedal assist with a slightly longer stop list that adds Catedral de la Almudena, while the regular-bike option guarantees the smaller stated group and the lower price, and its 8-review base is thin enough that the itinerary and bike type should carry the decision more than the 5.0 rating.

Private Bike Tours And Day Trips To El Pardo, El Escorial And Segovia

6 tours, from $43.63 per person

Private Bike Tours

Six tours in this category run as private groups, from $43.63 to $215.83 per person, with durations from 2 to 3.1 hours. The top price belongs to "Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks", which is priced in tiers by group size, so $215.83 per person is a from-figure that varies with headcount. It is also the only private tour without free cancellation mentioned; the other five include it.

A bike and a guide are included on all six, with helmets mentioned on four. E-bikes are standard or an option on all six, making this the category where pedal assist and a closed group combine.

Review bases differ widely, from 11 reviews on "Private City Center and Retiro" to 153 on "Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks". In between sit "Private Classic Bike Ride" at 5.0 over 50 reviews, "All-Madrid Private E-Bike" at 4.8 over 112 reviews, "Private or Shared E-Bike City" at 4.9 over 31 reviews and "Private E-Bike, Hidden Gems" at 5.0 over 23 reviews. Group cap not mentioned for any tour in this category. The "Private or Shared E-Bike City" tour describes itself as a 3-hour uninterrupted ride with an optional refreshment pause, so check pacing expectations on the booking page.

Private E-Bike, Hidden Gems

All 6 Private Bike Tours on one page →

Four private tours sit below the cards. "Private or Shared E-Bike City" from $51.66 per person, varying by group size, runs 3 hours 5 minutes with stops running from Retiro Park and Palacio Real to Madrid Río and Casa de Campo; helmets are optional, and obligatory for children up to 16 years. "Private City Center and Retiro" from $44.77 per person is the shortest at 2 hours, e-bike only, meeting near Plaza de Ópera and has 11 reviews so far. "Private E-Bike, Hidden Gems" from $86.10 per person, varying by group size, runs 3 hours with free photos during the tour and a stop list that includes Matadero Madrid and Madrid Río. "Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks" from $215.83 per person, also varying by group size, covers parks and center in 3 hours, and free cancellation is not mentioned; check the booking page.

All six private tours show a from-price per person that varies with group size.

Day Trips From Madrid

Three tours make up this category, from $40.18 to $63.14 per person. Two of them have no reviews yet: "El Pardo Palace Nature Ride" from $40.18 per person, a private e-bike tour of 3 hours 15 minutes meeting at Calle de Juan Álvarez Mendizábal 19 in Argüelles and riding toward El Pardo, and "El Escorial Nature and History" from $45.92 per person, a 2.5-hour small-group e-bike ride capped at 13 that meets at Paseo de Carlos III 145 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and names Real Monasterio de El Escorial as a stop. With zero reviews between them, neither carries a rating.

The third, "Segovia E-Bike Day Ride" from $63.14 per person, is rated 5.0 over 6 reviews, a small base. It is a small-group tour capped at 12, meeting at Calle Coronel Rexach 27 in Segovia at the start of the aqueduct, with the Acueducto de Segovia named on its itinerary and a bike trailer listed as an exclusion at €30.00 per person.

All three tours include a bike and free cancellation, and all three are e-bike tours. Helmets are stated on all three; guides are stated on two, and the guide detail is not mentioned on the Segovia tour's booking page.

Small-Group E-Bike Gems

All 3 Day Trips From Madrid on one page →

"El Escorial Nature and History" is the day trip not carded above. It runs 2 hours 30 minutes, the shortest in the category, with a group cap of 13 and an accompanying guide, electric bike, helmet and liability and accident insurance stated as included. Its exclusions cover transport to the meeting point, food and drink, and sportswear or personal equipment. It has no reviews yet.

The day trips differ from the city rides in two ways. First, two of the meeting points lie outside Madrid city, in San Lorenzo de El Escorial and Segovia, so travel to those starts is on you; the El Pardo ride meets in Argüelles. Second, the review base is nearly empty, with 6 reviews for one tour and none for the other two, against the four-figure counts on the busiest city rides.

Given that, the choice here rests on the itinerary and the stated inclusions rather than ratings: El Pardo for a private group and palace-adjacent nature, El Escorial for the monastery at the lowest duration, Segovia for the aqueduct at the highest price.

El Pardo Palace Nature Ride

What Do Madrid Bike Tours Cost?

All 29 tours compared on Madrid Bike Tours carry a from-price: the lowest amount the booking page shows for one participant. That figure is the starting point, not a fixed total, and several tours move up once extras or group-size tiers apply.

Across the full set, from-prices run from $29 to $215.83. The bottom of the range belongs to the "Vintage Bike, Optional Tapas" ride at $29, while the top figure of $215.83 appears on "Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks", a private tour priced in tiers by group size, so the per-person amount changes with the size of your party. The median across all 29 tours sits at $43.63, which the page tile rounds to about $44.

Price Ranges By Category

Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks

The pattern in the numbers is clear. The cheapest tours cluster in the city highlights and parks categories, where every price sits at or below $56.25. Private Bike Tours start higher, with a floor of $43.63, and the category includes the $215.83 tiered private option at the very top of the range. Day Trips From Madrid also carry the higher floor, at $40.18, and reach $63.14 on the Segovia ride. If your budget is under $45, the data shows the widest selection in the city highlights, parks and night categories.

The Food Tour Outlier

One tour stands apart: the "5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive" at $102.17 per person. It is the only tour among the 29 that includes a meal, with lunch of scrambled Spanish eggs, paella, ham, olives, croquettes, a cod slice and tapas, plus coffee or tea, bottled water and alcoholic drinks for adults. At five hours in a group capped at 5, it is priced like a long small-group lunch on wheels, not a standard sightseeing ride.

Private Pricing And Cancellation

Private bookings are quoted per person. Eight tours show a from-price that varies with group size: the six private rides (Private Classic Bike Ride from $43.63, Private City Center and Retiro from $44.77, Private or Shared E-Bike City from $51.66, All-Madrid Private E-Bike from $43.68, Private E-Bike, Hidden Gems from $86.10, Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks from $215.83), plus the El Pardo Palace Nature Ride day trip from $40.18 and the Bike or E-Bike Parks Ride from $40.18, so check the tier that matches your party before comparing.

Private or Shared E-Bike City

On cancellation, 28 of the 29 tours include free cancellation. The "Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks" tour is the only one that does not mention free cancellation, worth weighing given its top-of-range price.

Every Madrid tour on this page lists a specific street address as its meeting point, and the list clusters in a handful of central locations. Calle de Santiago 18, beside the Royal Palace, is the busiest single address: seven tours name it, including the 3-Hour Electric Sightseeing, Casa de Campo E-Bike, Retiro E-Bike, Semi-Private, Bike or E-Bike Parks Ride, Retiro History Ride, Sunset and Night Lights E-Bike and Sunset-Chasing Bike Ride.

The main Retiro start is Calle de Felipe IV 10, next to the Casón del Buen Retiro, shared by three tours: the 3-Hour Highlights Bike Ride, E-Bike Panoramic Views, Parks, and the Private Classic Bike Ride. Six tours meet at Calle de Juan Álvarez Mendizábal 19 in Argüelles, near Plaza de España, among them Small-Group Bike or E-Bike, Small-Group E-Bike Gems, Parks and Riverside Bike Ride, Private or Shared E-Bike City, Private E-Bike, Hidden Gems and El Pardo Palace Nature Ride.

Calle del Espejo 9 in Centro hosts four tours: Optional Tapas Highlights Ride, Dutch and English Guided Ride, Private E-Bike Highlights and Parks, and Vintage Bike, Optional Tapas. Two tours meet at Carrera de San Francisco 7, La Latina, and two at Calle de la Independencia 2, near Plaza de Ópera, both of them private e-bike rides.

E-Bike Panoramic Views, Parks

Smaller clusters sit outside the center. The Segovia E-Bike Day Ride meets at Calle Coronel Rexach 27 in Segovia, at the start of the aqueduct, and El Escorial Nature and History meets at Paseo de Carlos III 145 in San Lorenzo de El Escorial. The 5-Hour Food E-Bike, All Inclusive starts on Calle de la Palma 7 in Malasaña, near Tribunal metro, while the Photo Ride, Small Group meets on Calle de Valverde 10 in Malasaña, one block from Gran Vía, and Small-Group Highlights Ride on Calle de los Jardines 12 by Sol. The map above marks each address.

The map shows where tours start. Getting there, or continuing your own ride afterwards, is a separate question, and the rules differ sharply by mode.

EMT city buses accept only a folded bike of hand-luggage size, according to the Ayuntamiento de Madrid's Oficina de la Bici. The bike must be folded before boarding, occupies the central platform, and only one folded bike is allowed per bus depending on occupancy, with wheelchair users having priority. Renfe treats a folding bike as hand luggage, free of charge, as long as it measures no more than 180 cm in combined height, length and width when folded.

For the Metro, esmadrid.com confirms that folding bikes are allowed without time limit on several sections and that non-folding bikes face a time restriction; the detailed rules are published by Metro de Madrid, so check there before traveling with a bike. Bikes are not allowed on the M-30 or its accesses, and in city tunnels they are allowed with care if fitted with front and rear lights.

Casa de Campo E-Bike

BiciMAD, the municipal electric bike system, lists 683 stations and 8,385 electric bikes across 21 districts. Its basic tariff is 0.50 EUR for the first 30 minutes, 0.50 EUR for the second 30 minutes, and 3 EUR for each further 30 minutes. A 30-day flat rate of 10 EUR per month gives unlimited free trips up to 30 minutes, with extra time charged at the same rates. The minimum age is 14, with under-18s signing up via a parent or guardian. Note that the Tourist Travel Pass does not include BiciMAD, so do not count on the pass for bike hire. The table below sets out all of these rules side by side.

How Do Madrid's 2026 Cycling Rules And Fines Affect Madrid Bike Tours?

Cyclists ride single file in a marked bike lane past plane trees on the Paseo del Prado.

A reform of the national Reglamento General de Circulación came into force on 1 October 2026, according to a DGT press release of 23 June 2026. The changes matter if your tour crosses interurban roads or if you ride on your own after it.

National Rules From 1 October 2026

The reform removes helmet exemptions: all cyclists must wear a helmet on interurban roads. Delivery riders must wear a helmet and reflective vest at all times, and the release classes both as grave infractions with a 200 EUR fine. Motor vehicles overtaking a cyclist on an interurban road must reduce speed by at least 20 km/h below the limit, and cyclists should ride preferably in the centre of the lane. In urban streets, motor vehicles must keep at least 5 m behind a cyclist in the same lane. The blood alcohol limit for cyclists, unchanged by the reform, is 0.5 g/l, or 0.25 mg/l of breath.

1.5-Hour Express Ride

Madrid City Rules

The Ayuntamiento de Madrid's Oficina de la Bici FAQ states the city rules. Bikes ride on the carriageway in the centre of the lane; bike lanes are not mandatory unless signed. Two cyclists may ride side by side in one lane unless it is risky, but never in a reserved bus lane. Pavements and pedestrian zones are closed to bikes except designated aceras-bici, limited to 10 km/h; under-12s may ride on pavements at 5 km/h with an adult on foot. Red lights apply to bikes, with a right turn on red only where signed. Night riding requires a front white light, a rear red light and a rear reflector. Using a phone or headphones connected to audio devices is prohibited.

Helmets In Madrid

The Ayuntamiento de Madrid makes helmets mandatory for under-18s in the city, stricter than the national under-16 rule, and recommends them for everyone else.

For a guided tour, the practical consequences are simple. The Ayuntamiento de Madrid says a helmet is mandatory for people riding as an economic activity, such as rental, delivery and passenger transport, and that they need civil-liability insurance; whether a given guided tour counts is for the operator to confirm. A helmet is included on 19 of the 29 tours compared here, so check the booking page of the specific tour for its gear list. Helmets may be optional on some tours, but the city rule for riders under 18 still applies to young cyclists.

On the road, the guide sets the line, but the rules above still govern: carriageway position, side-by-side riding only where safe, no phone in hand and no headphones. If your tour runs past dusk, the front white and rear red lights requirement kicks in, so evening riders may want to confirm lighting with the operator.

Parks and Riverside Bike Ride

Parks deserve a note of their own. In city parks and gardens, bikes are allowed on paths wider than 3 m and pedestrians have priority at all times; ride slowly and give way. Casa de Campo, which appears on seven tours here including the E-Bike Panoramic Views, Parks and the Casa de Campo E-Bike, has its own rules published by esmadrid.com: a 20 km/h speed cap, with riding on paved roads and wide dirt paths only, and no cross-country riding or trails.

None of this should put anyone off. The rules mostly codify common sense, and an organized tour with a local guide handles route choice, traffic and timing for you.

Winter Riding

The AEMET normals count frost days, not just cold ones: January averages 6.2 frost days, December 4.5 and November 0.9. Snow is rare but real, with 1.0 snow day in January, 1.3 in February and 0.6 in December. December's mean maximum is 10.0 °C and January's 9.8 °C, while mean minima sit near freezing. Riding is still possible, and several tours mention raincoats in case of rain, but gloves and layers matter.

What Is Happening This Season

News items reported in early November 2026 shape the coming weeks. AEMET's forecast for 5 November 2026 put Madrid's daytime maximum at 15 °C with a minimum around 5 °C, possible weak frosts in the Sierra, clearing skies, sunny conditions and light south winds. The Virgen de la Almudena festival runs 6 to 9 November 2026 at Plaza Mayor, with free processions, music and sweets, and Plaza Mayor is a named stop on ten of the tours compared here. The Christmas lights switch on at Cibeles is scheduled for 21 November 2026 at 19:30, opening a free spectacle that runs until 6 January 2027, and Cibeles appears as a stop on six tours. Transport has friction: a general strike has been called for 11 November 2026 with minimum services still pending, and metro lines 6 and 10 have ongoing works with replacement buses. If your tour date falls near any of these, check the booking page for the exact departure time and any meeting-point adjustment before you travel.

Festive-season rides can be rewarding, with the city lit up from late November, but expect crowds around the busiest squares on any itinerary that includes them.
